Wheelchair, mobility, seating

• All floors of The Rechabite are wheelchair accessible, including the rooftop, main hall, basement, bathrooms and quieter / chill room. The upper balconies in the main hall are only accessible by stairs.

• Accessible entrance to the Rechabite is to the left of the main entrance (on William St). Staff and team will be available to provide directions.

• A viewing area will be cordoned off in front of the stage in the main hall, until the last live performances have concluded. Wheelchair users & people with applicable disabilities or injuries are invited to use this viewing area. Some seating (mostly stools) is available upon the internal balconies of the hall, which is accessed by stairs.

• There is seating of various kinds throughout the venue, including beanbags, bar stools, wooden benches using the wall as a back rest. There are backed chairs in the Double Rainbow restaurant area, which will open up to non-dining guests as a chill zone / arts & crafts / quieter space from around 10:30 or 11pm once the restaurant’s kitchen has closed.

• The bathrooms can have longer queuing times during the peak of the night. There is 1 accessible bathroom on the basement floor. See the Bathrooms section of this page for additional info.

• If waiting in the entry queue is not compatible with your disability, please kindly let the door staff know and they should allow you skip to the front.

Sensory & chill

• There will be a quieter Chill Zone (from 10:30pm-ish) in the Double Rainbow Restaurant (ground floor) with neutral lighting, comfy seating, wholesome activities and friendly volunteers. This will be set up once the restaurant diners have finished their meals.

• In the dancefloor areas, we will prioritise lower-intensity visual effects outside of live performances. No white strobe lights will be used.
Some live performances on stage may involve flashing lights, though we will brief the lighting operator to avoid bright flashes above 3Hz.
Fog/haze effects will be used around the dancefloor.

Bathrooms

• At the Rechabite there will be 1 accessible bathroom on the basement floor, as well as gender-neutral toilets for everyone else. A venue map detailing these locations will be released before the event.

• The queue for the bathrooms is known to get quite long during peak periods. Please be prepared to wait before use.

• You are welcome to pass-out from the venue to access public portaloos which are planned to be stationed on Francis Street, near the end of the laneway behind the Rechabite. They are due to be set up in this location for the occasion of the Pride Parade.

• We apologise in advance for any discomfort experienced due to busy bathrooms. It’s not always ideal but we must work with what we have.

Wellness team / roving assistance

• There will be Wellness Team (friendly volunteers from the community) in hi-vis, who are there to help keep a caring eye out for you (rave-parent style), offer general guidance about the event and venue, and to help keep the night running smoothly.

• Identifiable individuals from our Wellness Team may be able to help in finding you the appropriate assistance (such as locating staff or security) if your issue or question is beyond their ability.

• Please note: our Wellness Team volunteers undergo a generalised briefing before the event, however most are not especially trained to handle complex or medical matters.

For emergencies, and any urgent health & safety matters, please inform the security staff immediately.

COVID

If you feel unwell at all, please stay home.

There is fresh air intake in the performance spaces, though we note that ~85% of the event takes place indoors, and most areas will experience a level of crowding which may not be suitable for the immunocompromised.
We encourage the wearing of face masks, and we suggest testing before the event. Hand sanitiser will be available.
If you test positive for Covid or are otherwise ill, we will gladly refund your ticket, please email us before 12pm on the day of the event, or pass your ticket on to a friend.
We’d like to remind all that there are many people in our community, and their loved ones, who remain especially vulnerable to Covid, and that the pandemic never ended.
